Membership

A Family Membership is $35, and an individual membership is $30. Members receive a packet which includes:

· Information on funeral planning

· Dealing Creatively With Death, A Manual of Death Education and Simple Burial by Ernest Morgan

· Preference Cards to inform survivors of your wishes

· Annual Newsletter with an invitation to our annual meeting

· List of cooperating funeral directors

· Body donation forms upon request

· Information and advice!

The greatest obstacle to free choice in making funeral arrangements is the mystery that surrounds the physical and financial facts of death. Planning a funeral should be a simple business transaction, a purchase of services. What makes it different from buying a home or car is the speed with which it must be done, the emotion involved, and the lack of knowledge of the average consumer.

The Funeral Consumers Alliance promotes choice through education. By informed planning, members can make arrangements that will encourage both the acceptance of death and the affirmation of life for those left behind.

DID YOU KNOW?

· Most individuals never share their funeral wishes with their family members. FCAMOC members receive information on how to communicate this information, sparing relatives from difficult, expensive decisions.

· The average cost of a “traditional” funeral in the U.S. is now over $6,000. But in our Annual Newsletter members can see and compare current prices of various services offered by several local funeral directors.

· Embalming and fancy caskets are not required for cremation or burial. FCAMOC members avoid unnecessary procedures and expenses by pre-planning.

· A safety deposit box is the last place to store your funeral instructions. Your instructions should be readily and easily available to your family.

· When a body is not displayed, memorial services can be held almost anywhere, including community halls, parks, churches, synagogues, homes.

· Even if death comes suddenly and an individual has not pre-planned, relatives can enroll the deceased in FCAMOC and save money.

How it Works...

Once you receive your membership kit, fill in your preference cards, and 'location of items' sheet. Keep a copy for your personal file; make a copy for your next of kin. Annually update your information, perhaps when the newsletter arrives every spring.

Upon death, your survivors can refer to the information you have already given them, sparing them many difficult decisions. They may not even have to go to a funeral home, if you've chosen simple cremation.

Pre-payment is not necessary and is in fact discouraged.

Your family should notify FCAMOC of your death so we can update our records.
